Earlier last week, Mercedes-Benz announced the concept for their first ever pickup truck; the X-class. Mercedes-Benz states that this will be the world’s first “premium” pickup truck. The pickup truck segment of automobiles was one that Mercedes-Benz had yet to enter until now.
They realize that it is a competitive and lucrative market, and they wanted to tap into it to join the rest of the competition. The market for trucks, in the U.S. has risen by 20% every years as pickup trucks become more popular. This market segment also dominates in countries such as Brazil and Argentina. Mercedes-Benz knows that the U.S. market is controlled by “The Detroit Three” so they will not be offering this truck to the U.S. when it first is in production. The company plans to release the truck in Europe, Latin America, South America, and Africa. As of now there is no official pricing for this pickup truck but Mercedes plans to come up with a range soon.
